News and Notes of the [[Ad?]]

Attempts of various advertising media to impress upon advertisers the value of year-round advertising are gradually beginning to bear fruit, according to comment here. The sharp rise in radio billings this Summer is the result of the chains' efforts to prevent any letdown and shows that, apparently, advertisers were impressed with the radio promotional campaign.

In the same manner, outdoor advertising interests hope to curtail the Winter letdown in postings and are conducting a vigorous campaign to show the amount of motor travel during the cold weather months. In a few instances industries are beginning to make efforts to prevent a seasonal letdown in sales. During the Summer, for instance, Scotch and rye houses advertised vigorously to keep up sales. Rum interests, who are enjoying their most successful season, will endeavor to carry the momentum through the Fall and Winter season. Brewers will also make efforts through promotional campaigns to maintain beer consumption during the cold weather months.

There is a considerable demand in new Fall bags in the popular price ranges for immediate delivery, but shipments are lagging behind demand.

JACK HARTBLAY, INC. Market activity was noted in the dress market last week. Buyers were very optimistic, and showed a tendency to trade up. Dresses were ordered for immediate wear in black satin and jersey. Formals were called for at popular prices. Schoolgirl dresses sold well, and costume suits and ensembles were in demand. Three-piece suits and sport coats were ordered in the popular price brackets. Reports from stores already conducting mid-season coat features indicates that, while unit sales are on a par with last year, higher prices are
expected to increase volume. Orders were placed for later delivery on women's and children's rayon underwear, gowns and pajamas. Gloves were called for in kid and capeskin, as well as knitted gloves. Initial orders were placed on new Fall millinery for early delivery.

FROHMAN & ALTMAN, INC.-Dresses were purchased actively last week by visiting buyers. "Don't dress for dinner" costumes met with approval. Attractive silk dresses were available in larger selection then previously. Woolen dresses and costume suits were ordered for back-to-school promotions. There were indications of a revival of interest in tunic styles. The new processed velvets were very important. Fewer coat and suit buyers were in town, as more were busy with August sales plans. Reorders arrived on [[mannis?]]tailored suits, three-piece fur trimmed suits and velours du [no?]] suits and coats.
