Legation of Sweden
Washington D.C.

Washington p.t. Stockholm,

July 24th, 1937.

Dear Mr. Seligmann,

In 1938 there will be a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the landing on the Delaware of the first Swedish colonists. The United States Government as well as that of the States of Delaware and Pennsylvania will participate in the celebration. The Swedish Government in addition will send a distinguished delegation and will participate in many other ways.

One of these is the opening of an official exhibition of Swedish art which the Swedish Government will send to the United States. This exhibition organized by a joint committee of Swedish and American museum officials will be shown in the museums of the larger cities in America. Its aim is to reveal to a new and large public the long and impressive art tradition of Sweden.

Important works from the National Museum and from private collections will be included, particularly those from the earliest time and from the Viking period. Objects representing the rich peasant arts and a carefully selected group of paintings also will be shown.

The exhibition opens in New York at Rockefeller center on September 24th under the patronage of a committee composed of those who are interested in Sweden and the arts. I should greatly appreciate it, if you would accept honorary membership of this committee.

I earnestly trust you will be able to serve in this capacity. Kindly answer to Mr. Naboth Hedin, Director of the American Swedish News Exchange, 630 5th Avenue, New York.

Very sincerely yours

W Boström
Minister of Sweden.

Mr. Germain Seligmann,
New York.
