August 6th., 1938.

Dear Mr. Kiley

It gave me considerable pleasure to receive your kind lines of July 23rd., as I have always kept such a delightful memory of the few hours I spent in your company.

Unfortunately, as you surmised so very correctly, I am not in New York at present and your lines reached me in Paris where I am for but a short visit, on my way to taking a vacation in Switzerland.

I can understand your feeling at seeing such a very young girl take so drastic a step and be sure that I will be very pleased to do whatever I can in this particular case. I do not want you, however, to be under a misapprehension, as unfortunately my business only quite occasionally puts me in touch with living artists, and then they are generally at a point where they have achieved a certain prominence, which, as consequence, means they have their models. Nevertheless, as I said above, I shall be glad to be of service to you if possible.

I feel rather distressed to read that you have been so often in New York and have not dropped in to see me, as it would have been a true pleasure to spend an evening with you. Do get in touch with me later, therefore, as I intend being back in New York some time after the beginning of October.

With personal regards, I am,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)
