Dear Mr. Séligmann:

SCHIFF AUCTION: We all were delighted to hear that you were pleased with the outcome of the sale, and it must be a great relief to you to know that it is over.

I am enclosing copies of wires sent Mrs. Thorne. She was extremely pleasant about changing her bid from the little table No. 57 to the guéridon No. 51. I didn't confirm the change in writing, as it seemed best - in view of 51 coming before her original bid on 57 - not to put any reason down in balck and white.

MRS. JAMES SELIGMAN: Phoned yesterday to inquire about having t wo tapestry rugs cleaned. She said that you knew they shouldn't be sent to Paris because of possible difficulties in getting them back into the country. She is sailing tomorrow on the Normandie and I presume you will see her in Paris.

MR. RASCOVAR came in the other day. When you return he wants to ask whether any firm advertising for next season can be placed through his organization! He also said a booklet is being prepared on the advertising and publicity they carried out for the auction. We shall, I presume, see it shortly.

MR. WAEGEN has asked me to tell you that he saw Mrs. Merriman and Mr. Houston in Providence, and he feels that there may be future business there. He also saw Miss. Berwind, in Newport, and will write you by next mail on that topic. Mr. Hanna has gove to Cleveland for the Summer, so Mr. Waegen did not show him the picture - the time not being propitious.

CALIFORNIA PALACE OF THE LEGION OF HONOR is apparently giving great importance to the Venetian exhibition, as you will see from the enclosed card announcing lectures in conjunction with it. You also received a special invitation to attend the opening, and I have sent your regrets.

CHRISTIE'S CATALOGUES: We have been deluged with catalogues of the paintings and engravings since you left - but no further copies of the
