GAFFE: I agree with you. We can't have the LaFresnaye show and boost him before we have completed our purchases. This also depends on DUBRUJEAUD or the size of the deal. If, when and as the thing is settled, cable me and ask me whether you should go to Bruxelles, and try and get the "CONQUETE DE L'AIR".

Having heard nothing about the KAPFERER "DIABOLO",I surmise you have not succeeded in purchasing it.

RENOIR - LAROCHE: I shall probably cable you in a day or so, if the Dubrujeaud deal doesn't go through, to offer Frs. 1,000,000. for the Renoir "Girl with fan against a background of flowers."

DUBRUJEAUD: I have, of course, sent Willems his check of Frs. 60,000., and am delighted to have the Daumier.

As regards Carl Henschel, my mind doesn't seem to be functioning properly, in fact I am extremely tires [[tired]], but I will have to approach him in the very near future, as I can't let this matter drag.

Thank you for the pedigree. I had Bob working on it and we will have it as complete as feasible by the time you arrive.

You should by all means get the necessary books and I am sending you herein a list of those we already have here.

JAVAL RENOIR: I really don't feel that we should pay over $20,000. or $22,000., for the pair. As attractive as they may be, don't forget that they are extremely small and we would be up against the postage-stamp reaction.

It must have given you a shock to read that your airplane had crashed two days later, but the near fate is more or less representative of life as a whole.

There is very little I can tell you about New York. From my personal experience, I am under the impression that the sentiment is decidedly better than in June, and certain galleries claim they have and are doing business. In our gallery I have the greatest trouble getting them to work along active and constructive channels. They have actually to be "whipped" into work.
