Karl Seligmann, Ingenieur, Oberbaurat i.P.
Rudolf von Altplatz 6, Vienna III.

Wien, January 14th 1939

Mr. Germain SELIGMANN,
3 E, 51th str. New York City.

Dear Sir,

I hope that the extraordinary conditions under which we are living now will justify these lines to you. Please do not take it amiss if I venture to approach you in this way.

The reason for this lettre is [[strikethrough]] u [[/strikethrough]] to tell you that my only child,a honest and diligent son of 24 who has nearly finished his law-studies, had to leave this country and was forced to emigrate to Palestine. I presume it is known to you that in consequence of the political circumstances there are to - day in Palestine very much unemployments and it is nearly impossible for him to earn his living even in the most modest way. Therefore my only child is starving and it is quite impossible for us to help him as there is no legal possibility to transfer any money.

We know here that many Americans are inclined to assist emigrated jews in the most noble hearted and generous manner. Wouldn't it be possible for you to help my son in some way or other ? For instance to send him some money directly instead of sending it to some wel-fare- organisation? It would help him at least over a few days !

His address is:
Felix Friedrich SELIGMANN, PETACH - TIKWAH,
Rechov Keren Kajemeth street 16, Palestine.

I would not dare to approach you in this manner if I would not think that there may be some relationship between us bearing the same not too usual name.

I would be immensely grateful to you to any assistance you might be kind enough to offer to my son.
With many thanks in advance I am.
Dear Sir,

Yours sincerely
[[?]] Karl Seligmann
