WAR DEPARTMENT
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF STAFF
WASHINGTON, D.C.

January 30, 1939.

Dear Seligmann:

We received your wire and were very much distressed, not only that we could not have you with us, but that you suffered the misfortune of a relapse in your recovery from the flu. There is so much of that ailment in Washington that I can well understand what has happened, and I do hope that you will be very careful.

As a matter of fact, if you had come, you would have run into very disagreeable weather, and dangerous for a flu convalescent.

Mrs. Marshall wishes me to tell you how sorry she is that she has lost this particular opportunity of meeting you and having you in our home.

Faithfully yours,
G. C. Marshall
