January 10th., 1939.

Dear General Marshall:

A thousand thanks for your kind note of January 5th.

Please don't think me too tempremental if I suggest another date for our meeting in Washington, but between writing my last letter to you and this one, I find that an exhibition of paintings is opening at the Museum of Modern Art in Washington on Sunday the 29th., and I wondered whether I couldn't have my professional activities coincide with my visit.

If this new date is equally convenient to you, I would then be in Washington on the 29th., for a couple of days.

I do appreciate immensely Mrs. Marshall's and your invitation to be your guest and accept your hospitality with much pleasure. May I however make one condition - that neither Mrs. Marshal nor you will change your daily routine, as I certainly don't want to be a burden to you in any way.

I shall see in the meantime whether I can get a hold of Colonel Lombard and arrange a luncheon.

Let me tell you again how much I am looking forward
