Dear Mr. Séligmann:

MACKAY: Mr. Miller telephoned this morning to tell us that the items purchased by Mr. GRANCSAY have now been released. I have spoken to Mr. Grancsay who is calling for the items this afternoon, in his car. At the moment there is some question as to whether he will take the Merovingian helmet today or whether he will postpone that for another trip, due to its fragility. Messrs. Davis, Polk, Wardwell, etc., etc., have decided to let Mr. Grancsay take now the Armet, Sword and Helmet on which he has only paid $1,000., on account, as well as the items which have been paid for in full. I think their reason is their desire to cancel the inusrance.

MR. HIGGINS - Mr. Levy will, I am sure, write you the details of his visit to Roslyn with Mr. Higgins and the offer which resulted. Enclosed herewith you will find copies of correspondence both with Mr. Higgins and with the attorneys in connection with the possible deal. At the moment the whole thing hinges on your approval of the offer, and though it is the "Quatorze Juillet" we have strong hopes of having a cable from you today.

CHRISTIES: This minute practically, we received 6 catalogues of the auction WITH ILLUSTRATIONS. Should the attorneys not yet have received any I'll send them two copies this afternoon.

Would you please ask Christies to send the attorneys and one to Mr. Liechti a marked catalogue, showing the Estate's Inventory Number for each item in the sale. Mr. Miller asked me two or three days ago whether I could identify the items, but I had to confess it was impossible.

Likewise Mr. Miller told me that Mr. Polk had been immensely pleased even with the un-illustrated copy and had asked him to convey that news to me for you!

YOUR PRICES ACCEPTED From the enclosed copy, you will see that the attorneys have accepted the prices you suggested on the halberds and pole axe. Therefore as soon as Mr. Grancsay finds a few spare minutes to give me the necessary details or to look at the descriptions in the inventory, I shall put those items in the catalogue.

MR AND MRS. DOUGLAS CHANDOR came in yesterday and asked for you. You will remember that she was formerly Mrs. Ina Hill, who now lives in Texas. Mr. Waegen received them -- they were in town for a few days and just wanted to say "hello".

KRESS: Am enclosing a clipping from yesterday's "Times" re his gift to the National Gallery, Washington, which probably will not be news to you. They don't seem to refer to any sculptures coming from the Mackay collection.
