December 17th., 1940.

Dear Sir:

After the World War I was awarded the “Distinguished Service Medal” for my services as Liaison Officer with the First Division in France.

Recently I have made inquiries here as to the official symbol to be worn with business clothes by holders of this medal, but I have been unable to obtain any definite information. Would you therefore be so kind as to let me know just what this is - a ribbon in the button-hole, rosette, bar?

I would also be obliged if you would tell me where such may be purchased, and whether an official authorization must be presented to the merchant supplying these. In the latter case I would appreciate your sending me the required authorization.

Thanking you in anticipation of your reply,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)

Adjutant General,

War Department
Washington, D.C.
