At 5 P.M. the Division P.C. opens. Around the four walls are the P.C's of the regiments or similar organizations. For those who enjoy taking spirituous refreshments with former comrads [[comrades]]-in-arms long thought dead, proper provision will be made. For those who wish to indulage [[indulge]] in song, music will be provided, and for those who wish to shake hands with Generals, we can guarantee a full assortment. All tastes are catered to except you can't bring your wife or other female companions and there are no hostesses.

About 7 P.M. (Eastern Daylight Saving Time) a bugler blows mess call. Your committee has arranged for regimental tables. Now, try and do that upon the basis of actual acceptances with a lot of eager birds arriving at the last minute with $10 and $20 bills in their hands. Do you want to sit with the officers of your old outfit? Or, would you be content to sit at the table marked "late arrivals"? You know you would not. You want to sit with your outfit, tell lies with them, try to keep them quiet while Rev. Muarry Bartlett, D.D. says grace, stand with them every time the band plays your regimental march (or anything that sounds dimly like it) and then, after dinner, sit back and hear Generals Bullard, Summerall, Parker (just back from Europe), Marshal and Drum rise to and introduction by Brigadier General Wilby, now Chief of Staff 1st Army (and toastmaster), to speak of military subjects to a close meeting of soldiers (no newspapers present- Colonel McCormick of Chicago Tribune only as a soldier) and it may be "hot", but more important still, they will tell you of the glories of the First Division, A.E.F. and the details and individual feats which made it the one Division with "A SPECIAL PRIDE OF SERVICE AND A HIGH STATE OF MORALE, NEVER BROKEN BY HARDSHIP NOR BATTLE".
