July 2nd., 1942.

Dear Theresa:

Do excuse this typewritten note, but I do not want you to hear through third parties that I have been operated on and had my appendix removed.

It left me quite weak and I am leaving tomorrow morning for the Adirondacks, where I expect to spend a couple of weeks, to hasten my recuperation. I am all right otherwise - there was a slight incident in the closing of the wound, which leaves me with a small drainage of no importance - so says
the surgeon.

This is just to say "hello" to you and to explain why you haven't hear from me.

Do take good care of yourself, and
With affectionate thoughts,

Yours very sincerely,

Mrs. H. N. Straus,
Middletown Farm,
Red Bank, N.J. (Germain Seligmann)
