40 East 52nd St. New York. June 18th 1942. My dear Germain, I am so terribly sorry to hear that you have joined the ranks of people who can compare scars and jealously claim that their operation was unique! I often think that we should all have some kind of a badge to wear, a "bistouri rampant" or something of that sort because there's a great fellow-feeling of kindness & interest if one's been through it oneself. All joking apart I am so sorry & hope you will soon be up & about again, I thought you looked a trifle peeky at the lecture but as it had been so hot & la Mère Tabouis so trying I put it down to that - I know H.H. will be terribly sorry too when he hears.

"la Mère Tabouis" = Geneviève Tabouis?
