May 6, 1947 Dear Sir: I have just been informed that having applied for and received a visa to go to France in order to attend to business matters my request for a carte de touriste has been turned down on this ground. I am rather at a loss to understand these drastic measures, for, while I do have such business matters to take care of, they will I expect be settled in a matter of a week or ten days and afterwards I intend remaining in France with the exception of a visit to Switzerland until the early days of September - in other words, spend at least five to six weeks in your country strictly as a tourist. I am, therefore, appealing to you in the hope that by adopting a more lenient attitude, I may enjoy the same privileges of other tourist visitors. If in order to obtain this carte de touriste it t.s.v.p.
