COPY

RICHARD D. BUCK TO G.S. MAY 19th., 1948

Dear Mr. Seligman:

We have studied your letter of May 5 with care and we have tried to see how we can undertake to treat your miniature according to your wishes.

Your suggestion about mounting is good to have, although I should prefer to leave the choice of methods until we see how the mended vellum behaves.

We do not see how we can follow your suggestions about the treatment of the paint surface. It would be entirely too hazardous to undertake to touch the vellum without first securing the loose paint. This is not a debatable point as would be the compensative treatment of the tears etc. to reduce accidental distortions in the design.

I would hope for an opportunity to discuss the whole treatment personally in the presence of the object. The importance of the painting is such that there should be no misunderstanding about its treatment, and I hesitate to go further by correspondence.

I am sure you agree with these suggestions.

Sincerely yours,

(Signed Richard D. Buck)
