Liechti 5 East 57th St. New York 22, N.Y. Dear Mr. Liechti: I wish to thank you very much for your recent inquiry concerning your order for the History of the First Infantry Division. However, I am very sorry to inform you that due to the many delays, partially caused by the continued paper shortage, as well as the fact that many of the newspaper correspondents contributing to the various chapters of the book, are scattered throughout the world--some in Russia, others in the interior of China, and so forth, this book is not yet ready for delivery. In addition to this, this office is arranging for all "next of kin" of those men killed in action, to receive a free copy of the History. I am also very sorry that this office has been forced to send out a mimeographed form letter, inasmuch as it is against our policy, but so many are anxious for the History that in order to handle the volume of inquiries it was necessary to do so. Thank you very much for your consideration in bearing with us. Sincerely, Robert J Riekse ROBERT J.
