June 22, 1949

Dear Mr. Seligman:

A Mrs. Pfister who, through a previous connection with the French Consulate in New York, remembered our firm's name, phoned to tell me that a friend of hers, a Mr. Yves Pironneau, 5 Rue André Colle-de-Boeuf, Paris, 16, owns one of the three existing death masks of Napoleon I, which he would like to see in the United States. I told her that the head of our firm was traveling in Europe and that I would gladly forward this information to him.

CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN DEPARTMENT - As requested, please find enclosed Balance Sheet for periods ending December 31, 1948 and January 1, 1949 to date. I particularly wish to point out to you that the sales for the first six months of this year approximate the sales made during the entire last year. I also want to add that quite a few matters are pending and I trust that some of them will materialize.

BERNHEIM - Wrote to him today as per enclosed copy of letter. I was on purpose a bit vague about dates as I do not want to put Burnheim in a position where he can hold us to a definite time. At all events, we have plenty of leeway, as according to Budworth, who is also in charge of the return shipment to New York, tells me that the Monet should be back at our galleries at the latest on July 10th, and I am certain also that the packing, etc. will not require more than two days.

MARISMAS - Mr. Henry B. Hyde mailed me, as promised, a translation of the letter he received from his Madrid correspondent, copy of which he tells me was also forwarded to you. The information received is really very disappointing.

JANSEN - Mr. Georges gave orders over the telephone to deliver the Valenciennes to them, together with consignment invoice indicating a price of $3,000.- net. (This is the same price given to Mr. Chailloux last January).
