May 13th., 1949.

Dear Mr. Lee:

Your letter of May 9th., has been opened by me, as Mr. Seligman flow to Paris early this week. I trust however that I may be of some small help in connection with your inquiry and also the base for Caffa.

Regarding the latter, we will mail to you by Parcel Post tomorrow the red velvet covered base on which the bronze was shown here. But, as you will see when it arrives, the base is not of the correct shape, the original one having been misplaced some while ago. You are at complete liberty to have the one we are sending adjusted, if your cabinet maker feels that is preferable to making a new stand.

I contacted Parke-Bernet this afternoon regarding the two items mentioned by your and which had been in Park I of the Brummer auction. According to their records the early Christian sarcophagus fragment, No. 268, was purchased by a museum, and the Byzantine bronze censer, No. 248, was acquired by a private party.

Please do not hesitate to communicate with me should there be anything further I can do in Mr. Seligman's absence, as should the necessity arise I can contact him on very short notice.

Yours very sincerely,

Mrs. T. D. Parker

Copy of S.E. Lee's letter: Dear Mr. Seligmann:

I wonder if you would mind sending out the wooden base for the Caffa? We have a very good cabinet maker and I think it could be prepared properly for exhibition purposes.

I wonder as well if you could tell me whether the early Christian sarcophagus fragment of a youthful Christ in the Brummer sale, #268, was acquired by a dealer and, if so, by whom? I should also like to know about #246, the Byzantine bronze censer. Kindest regards.
