Dear Mr. Seligman:

MANHATTAN WAREHOUSE - Withdrew the "Spanish Primitive" for Mr. Georges.

A MR. DANIEL J. FINSKY phoned yesterday. He is offering for sale a painting by Victor Giraud "The Slave Market". I told him that you were not expected back at the galleries until after Labor Day, but that he should, in the meantime, send in description, pedigree, etc.etc., which arrived this morning in duplicate, copy of which I am appending for your persual. I am enclosing copy of his letter and my answer thereto. Will follow up after your return.

We had the visit of a Mr. and Mrs. George Bemberg, apparently not Mr. Georges' client whose first name is Edouarde. Our gallery was recommended to them by Seligmann & Cie, Paris, for French modern paintings. Miss Cohen, who received them during my absence (I had to get a treatment for my shoulder) told them that you were traveling and not expected back in New York until Labor Day; that, however, your associate, Mr. Georges, was expected at the gallery on Thursday. Unfortunately, they are leaving New York today, but promised to either phone or visit our gallery upon their return to the city, also in September. He would not leave his address or phone number, for which Miss Cohen asked.

MR. DAVIS, MINNEAPOLIS phoned. He arrived in town yesterday, but was so busy that he could not make the promised visit to the gallery. He has to go to Boston today but will come to the office early tomorrow, Thursday.

MCKAY MORANT cabled that the Bernheim shipment, New York-Paris, via SS "America" is covered.

BOOKBINDER returned three volumes which he bound for us (ART QUARTERLY, ART BULLETIN, ORANGERIE "Les Peintres de la Réalité"). He also hand-stamped the top of the spine, as you instructed me to have it done, of your book by Planiscig "Andrea Riccio". I find his work very satisfactory.

MR. DAVIS, MINNEAPOLIS came in to look at the sculpture (See preceding paragraph).

1. Small Saint of the 12th century: No comments
2. Virgin and Child, French, and 14th century: Liked very much but have already chosen practically identical one. However, he wanted to see the new photograph and asked to have it forwarded to him at the Museum (This photograph was a very good one).
3. Head of Saint, French, end of 14th century: Was very enthusiastic about it. However, made no comments about including it in exhibition.
4.Vulcan, Italian, 16th century: Already have many similar small bronzes for exhibition.
5. Eagle and Deer, Bronze by Sarye: No comment.
6. Self Portrait by Antoine Bourdelle: Quite good. However, no comment about including it in exhibition.
7.Bas-relief in oak, French, end of 15th century: (Three panels which Jack framed): Liked very much. Thought it had the most quality. Would like to have it for exhibition.

Said that "Of course, we definitely want Renoir "Venus". Has it arrived yet?" Was answered in the negative; states that he had written to Curt Valentin about it - no further comments. He tells me that he is in New York looking at a lot of things from which they will ultimately make their selection. He also asked whether we had any new paintings, to which I replied in the negative. He also left check in the sum of $210.38 (Two hundred ten 38/100 dollars) being in full payment of our invoice of May 4, 1949 respecting the framing, etc. of his pictures.
