My dear Mr. Liechti:

I duly received your letter of June 27th with enclosures and presented bill of landing to Alcoa Steamship office, obtaining order for delivery of the two cartons shipped by Mr. Germain Seligman. Upon our representative calling upon the West Indian Co., agents for the Alcoa Line, they were unable to locate the two cartons and advised that either the cartons were not abroad the "Byfjord" or that they had not been unloaded when the steamer discharged here. If they were abroad the "Byfjord" and overcarried they will not be returned to St. Thomas until July 19th at the earliest; if not put aboard at New York then the earliest Alcoa ship is expected on July 13th. Under these circumstances and in view of the fact that certain personal items are included in the cartons I cabled as follows:

"Cartons Not Received on Docking of Byfjord".

We will follow up as best we can from St. Thomas and trust that the cartons will soon arrive there. You will no doubt wish to check with the line in New York to determine whether the shipment was in fact abroad the "Byfjord".

We will do our best to supply needed items to Mr. and Mrs. Seligman pending the receipt of the shipment.

Sincerely yours
Joseph E. McGowan
