Dear Mr. Seligmen:

Yesterday afternoon at three Mr. Bachrach and I had the visit of Mr. Rousseau at the studio. He was very sorry to have postponed coming before, but he had also to fly to London for a few days. This was the best interview we have had.

He was very much impressed with all the paintings and drawings, the new ones of which there are about nine or ten paintings since his last visit, among them the paintings and drawings from Europe, and again those he had seen before, stating that she keeps her intensly [[intensely]] personal style and the paintings hold up very well over a period of time.

He liked especially those paintings from Paris and Hyeres. Mr. Bachrach and I told him of their stay there, how much they had enjoyed it, and he also agreed that it was a lovely place and one of the few unspoiled places left. Mr. Bachrach spoke of the fury and intensity of her work to which Mr. Rousseau replied, it can be seen in the paintings.

Mr. Rousseau also liked particularly the latest painting, about which I spoke to you, as well as all the drawings, and remarked that although most of her paintings did not portray people nearly all of the drawings were entirely people, and how amazing was the intense sensitivity and strength which she gets into all of her work. He is very anxious to know Mrs. Bachrach whom he has not met, and expects to drive up to their home in Millbrook this summer, and also get together in New York for a drink in September. He inquired when she would have another exhibition which we do not know yet - that he will be there.

Mr. Bachrach expressed that we think she is very good, to which Mr. Rousseau answered, Yes she is, she is very good. He told us he had purchased a Leonardo last week and that although in another style it was very much in the same spirit.

I hope that you are having a good trip, and with best regards,

Very sincerely,
