NEW YORK (22) June 6, 1951

Dear Mr. Seligman:

Enclosed is a copy of my letter to Mr. Francis of Cleveland, based on the printer's estimate for catalogues. I believe it is self-explanatory.

In addition you will find a copy of a letter addressed to you which arrived from Mr. Francis today. As the envelope is marked "please hold for return", I think it would be best if I did not even acknowledge it.

I am also enclosing a copy of the letter which I mentioned I would write to Rico Lebrun. Both Mr. Robbins and I thought the matter over for two days and each of us reached our separate conclusions which were identical, and he has approved the wording, as well as the idea that Mr. Liechti should be the one to sign it.

Yesterday Mr. Eugene Kingman of Omaha was in. He is gathering material for an exhibition covering the development of art from the accepted 18th century type to a few years ago, his people being families with the earlier types and current paintings.

Of course I showed him the two Fontainebleau paintings, as you will remember Mr. Parsons wanted him to see "Lot and His Daughters". He thought the latter very beautiful, but I gather not exactly important for a gap in their collection, and certainly not for his immediate undertaking.

He will write when he has digested everything he saw in New York and been able to select forty-five works for his show. Here he saw the La Neuville portrait; the Delacroix Arabian Musicians; the Gauguin watercolor; and the Braque Still Life, and was going to look up a reproduction of the Courbet which is now out.

These of course are towards his big exhibition which will open in October, from which museum's purchases will be made. Naturally he will not want all of them, but will let us know what he would like to have and will be hoping it will be available.

This morning Frank Perls of California came in. He will pay another visit before he leaves, but I told him we had nothing really spectacular to show him.

Hope you are well
T. D. P.
