Painted in 1937, when the artist, now eighty, was at the peak of his power, a "Head of Christ," by Georges Rouault has been acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art, William M. Milliken, director announced this week. Noting that the luminous head of the subject shows against its dark background remarkably, Mr. Milliken reminds that "Rouault has been likened to Rembrandt." The work is regarded as a "summation of the painter's religious character."
