Dear Mr. Seligman:

The most important thing since your departure has come this morning when Mr. Bourgeois phoned to say his clients would not be able to come here as the lady is leaving for Europe on Saturday. She is however sending for the Matisse today to try in their house before she goes. I was somewhat skeptical about turning it over but as Mr. Bourgeois said you had given it to him to try in clients' homes, and he offered to come down and sign a receipt, in this instance, we finally arranged that a receipt would be given us directly by the prospective purchaser. The painting is to be returned to us within three days. I shall cable you when it is back or purchased.

Mr. Milliken just dropped in, but left when I told him you were away. I believe he is in town for the Museum of Modern Art's opening of the Modiglianis as I saw him there Monday night. He hopes you will see Mr. Francis who will be in Paris May 8th., and who will be returning here on the 15th.

Yesterday Mr. Gordon Washburn came in to see the following paintings again:

Philippe de Champaigne "St. Joseph"
La Hyre "Faith"
Fountainebleau "Feast of the Gods"
Lenain "Portrait of Girl"

He seemed to feel that they looked ever so much more attractive than he remembered. He also wanted to see the Vigee Lebrun "Countess de Schoenfeld" which I told him had been sold a year ago.

As yet no word about Lebrun being here.

Henry McBride came yesterday to review our show. I think Mr. Root is coming today.

On the 18th., the opera for which Lebrun did the costumes and settings will be given and I am going then. Furthermore, I had a talk with the publicity man at the ballet and understand posters are being put in windows of many of the big department stores and that many of the magazines, such as Vogue etc., are carrying articles and some photographs or reproductions of Lebrun's designs. He also told me that Emily Genauer is reproducing something in the issue which will precede our opening so I at once sent her a note saying that the paintings could be seen now if she wished to combine his accomplishments in both fields.

A lady from Fortune just telephoned to say that both Mr. and Mrs. Lebrun will be here this week and that I am the one who will know where they can be reached! Anyway it is good news as I think the matter of the travelling show can be smoothed out by a talk with them, and perhaps the whole recent mess in Los Angeles.

Ralph Pearson whom I suggested to station WEVD has been accepted by them and will speak on April 20th., of "Rico Lebrun and religious art in America".
