Dear Germain:

As there wont be time for you to send us answers, I am not sending letters in duplicate. As a matter of fact, before you notice and comment upon it, the copy of letter from Hans Naef was made by Miss Sayre.....I had failed to tell her to make it on lightweight paper.

You will probably have heard what we read in the morning's Times, that Francis Taylor is leaving the Metropolitan to return to Worcester as Director, having been promised by its Directors, a sufficiently leisurely schedule to allow him to write, travel, etc.

Other than that, todays news consists only of a letter from the Assistant Director of the Carnegie Institute to you, as follows:

"We have been offered a de la Fresnaye drawing which I am taking the liberty of sending on to you. We would like to purchase the picture, but there is some doubt in Mr. Washburn's mind as to its authenticity. For this reason, we would be grateful for your opinion. I certainly hope we are not inconveniencing you. We shall of course, keep your comments in strict confidence.

Please charge us for any expense you may incur in returning the drawing. It may be sent back to Carnegie Institute express collect, with a valuation of $375.00 declared to the Railway Express Agency. Yours very sincerely"

So.....the above gives us nothing to do but accept the shipment when it comes and hold the picture for you. I shall acknowledge the letter tomorrow.

Then Sam Hunter 'phoned to inquire whether we still had the Picasso drawing of two women which went to the Art Institute. I have so informed him, but we are sending a photograph pending his receipt of authorization and another print from the Art Institute.

Hope your Swiss expedition was successful. So far it has been very quiet here as the weather is foul, absolutely foul!

Best,

T-
