Hotel Ritz, Paris
July 4, 1954

Dear Porjes:

At this writing the last letter I received from the firm is yours of June 30th. I am just writing this so that you may be able to see which letter, if any, was sent here prior to our leaving, which will not be, as you know, before July 7th.

Will you please advise Mr. Dattlebaum of my leaving Paris and going to St. Moritz.

Rheims. I am sending to him the bonde vente.

On September 15th willyou take the necessary steps, though I certainly hope to be there and if so remind me, to send 50,000 French francs (fifty thousand) to Mlle. de Levaque.

In order to allow you to make some progress as to the accounting, of my trip to Europe, I do not want to wait until my return to give you some indications of expenses incurred, as well as some of the vouchers. Regarding the latter, I am sending themto you by this same mail, but by ship. They will include bills from the Ritz, Paris, as well as hotels in England, Germany, etc., also airplane tickets.

As far as the travelers' checks are concerned, I have spent $250.00 (two hundred and fifty) of my express checks; out of the book made out to Mrs. Seligman, $30.00 (thirty dollars).

Simultaneously I am indicating to you the different trips and their dates:

May 24 - London Express checks - $10.00
June 3,4,5 - Dijon, Jura, & Brou Expenses in F.fr - to be indicated.
June 9 - Amsterdam (Dr. Friedlander) Express checks - $30.00

To this list will have to be added bye and bye the trip to Zurich which will involve Berne, Basle and probably also Germany.

As you know, I have drawn for general expenses and also some of the private expense on the firm's account with J. P. Morgan & Co., check #1128 of June 11th and check #1133 of June 29th. Another one will be drawn before I leave Paris.

Transcription Notes:
We try to go by readability and not create a page less readable than the original. We do not follow the original line returns. You will see how difficult in some cases that is to read. We do not use ditto marks but type out the original. This is all in the instructions. The way the table was set up the two dittos indicated the wrong item. ----- can someone just verify the dates and expenses formatting? ----- I'm going by my formatting experience at Guttenberg; "When in doubt, match the scan", paraphrased. Also, I find it easier and faster to accurately review if the line endings are the same (or as close as possible) as the scan. If policy here is different, I havent read it anywhere. But I'm new at Smithsonian. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-02-27 07:16:31 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-02-28 13:00:46 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-02-28 13:04:25 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-03-02 16:34:36 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-03-05 21:29:45
