Dear Mr. Seligman:

This morning I went to the Frick and looked up the references I mentioned yester-day, and I am afraid they add little to what we already know. They all attest to the fact that Monet himself cut up the picture after the ends had deteriorated from moisture. The most interesting thing I found was a photograph of the artist and the Duc de Trévise standing before the middle section of the painting in the artist's studio at Giverny when Trévise visited him there in 1920 (Trévise "Le pelerinage de Giverny," Revue de l'art ancien et moderne, Jan. and Feb. 1927).

It is a little cooler today than it has been, but still very oppressive; one longs for a swimming pool or beach!

Sincerely,
Sally Winter

P.S. The Thore-Burger book is back from the binder and looks very attractive.
