Gentlemen:

Re: No. 6540 Marble Statue by Rosset "Voltaire"
Insurance Value $ 1,000.--(One thousand Dollars)

----------------

We refer you to our letter of June 10, 1955 in which we advised you of the shipment of the above to the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery of Art, Kansas City and asked you for an additional insurance against breakage.

Evidently this statue suffered more damage while in transit. We are enclosing herein photostatic copy of the official Inspection Report of the Railway Express Agency Inc. as well as photostatic copy of the Museum's official Receipt both of which were received today.

We are at a loss to understand what caused the damage, the more, as the statue, which is only 14 inch. hight was wrapped in heavy cotton and packed in a double case, both facts indicated in the inspection report.

For the time being we are not making any claim until we hear from our Mr. Seligman, who is at present on a trip and with whom we are communicating.

Thanking you for your attention to the above,

Yours very truly,
JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., INC.
