Air Express Service Will Be Terminated

WASHINGTON (AP)—The airline industry said Thursday that air express service offered jointly with REA Express will end at midnight tonight.

The Air Transport Assn. said shippers will have these alternative air cargo services:

1—Air parcel post, which has the same priority as air mail. The Post Office Department delivers the shipment, but the sender must take the parcel to the post office. There is a limit of 70 pounds in weight and 100 inches in girth, per parcel.

2—Air freight forwarder service—a pick-up and delivery service which generally is more economical than air parcel post for shipments of 20 pounds or more.

3—Airline air freight service—a pick-up and delivery service generally more economical than air parcel post or air freight forwarder service for shipments of 80 pounds or more.

4—Airline airport - to-airport package service—a new expedited service provided by several airlines, at varying rates.

ATA said a new agreement with REA Express was to have gone into effect Aug. 1. However, the Civil Aeronautics Board suspended the proposed new air express tariff.

Accordingly, ATA said, the airlines have issued notices to the shipping public that air express service will be halted.
