Med. Col. Mobile, Ala. March 2d 1866.

C.W. Buckley,
Supt. of Education.
Dr. Sir:

Yours of the 17th ult. came to hand this morning. Your request is granted with pleasure. The greatest number attending school at any one time 66% Average daily attendance 475. Number of each sex nearly equal. Average attendance of each sex about the same. Oldest scholar Mr. Wiley Baldwin, aged 61 yrs. Youngest scholar aged 6 yrs. As the majority are unable to give their age which makes it difficult to give the average age, I should judge it to be about 17. We have but 20 scholars in Alphabet all of which were admitted during the past month. We now have classes in all the different readers of Sanders New Union Series, classes in Mental and Practical Arith. Robinson's Series, Kerl's Com. School Grammar, Colton & Fitch's New [[Quarto?]] Geo. [[Quackenbos?]] Hist. U.S. advanced course, and one class ready to commence lessons in French and Music. A very marked progress and interest is plainly seen throughout all the Depts.
