7th Sub-District, State of Virginia,
Rocky-Mount, Va., December 30th, 1867.

General:
In reply to your inquiry of 24th inst relative to my remaining in the service of the Bureau after my muster out, I have the honor to state that I should be willing to remain in the service of the Bureau as a civilian agent, provided, the compensation or salary approximates my pay & allowances as an officer of the V.R.C.

In the mean time I shall continue, while I remain here, to discharge the duties of an agent of the Bureau for the county of Franklin, with the same interest for the welfare and protection of the freedmen as heretofore, unless relieved, or receipt of further instructions makes a change necessary.

I hope I may be notified promptly of any intention
