I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 11th instant making inquiry in regard to the pay of officers retained.

Their pay as officers of this Bureau under the Act referred to was commenced from the date of their respective appointments under that act; those recently appointed. September 9th 1868.

No officer, no matter when mustered out, is entitled to the 33 1/3 increase. There is no authority for paying it to anybody now.
