Lieut Rogers has just returned with his command  I have the statement from himself that the Sheriff attempted the arrest of a man on the Baxter farm for felony, that the freedmen resisted and threatened him. Lieut R sent Lieut Farragut to his assistance with twenty (20) men  the accused could not be prevailed on to yield but said he would die first and upon his arrest being attempted discharged a load of Buckshot into the breast of the Sergeant. The soldiers returned the fire Killing Two and mortally wounding one of the freedmen, The Sergeant has been brought into camp
