Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Washington, April 13th, 1869.

Circular letter

The Commissioner directs that the Assistant Commissioners discharge all agents and civil employees of this Bureau in their respective states, to take effect on the [[strikethrough]] 30th. inst. [[/strikethrough]] 31st May except the Superintendent of Education and one clerk, and such agents for payment of bounties as may be designated by the Chief Disbursing Officer.

The Assistant Commissioners of North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas will be relieved at the same time and directed to report to the Secretary of War for orders.
