I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of communication from War Dept. Bureau &c of the 17th inst. inviting attention to the condition of a school building erected by Northern men at Charlottesville, VA and most respectfully request information as to the names of the persons erecting the same, in order that they can be written to regarding it. as the communication of the Maj. Gen'l Commissioner, is the first intimation this Bureau has received of the existence of such a building;

Bureau &c that you will expend the sum of Five hundred Dollars $500. to aid in the construction of a school building near Scottoville, Albemarle Co Va. on the farm of W. Gordon Merrick, and if the funds in Virginia are exhausted will draw on the Ch'f Dis. Officer. for the amount above named.
