(2nd Vol. Folio 66) 29th May, 1866- Commissioner General, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of 300 forms "Proof of dependence in Mothers Claim for Pension"- Your communication of May 25th, stated that 150 forms of "Declaration of Children for Bounty, &c." and 150 forms of "Proof of dependence in Mother's claim for Pension" had been forwarded-No forms for "Declaration of Children for Bounty, &c. were received.- I am, General, Very Respectfully, Your Obt. Viz: Robert Hughes $66.66/100 Frank Smith 100.00 Hayward Bushel 100.00 Alexander Forman $100.00 Albert James 100.00 Thomas Allen 100.00 Total $566.66/100 I am, General Very Resptly Your Obt Servant (sig'd) Alfred H. (2nd Vol. Folio 69) 31st May, 1866- Commissioner General, I respectfully call your attention to the facts that the order assigning me to duty as Asst Commissioner of the Freedman's Bureau, gives me jurisdiction over the State of Virginia, and that as Military Commander of the Department of Virginia, I have no command over the Counties of Alexandria, Fairfax and Loudon, nor of the Valley of the Shenandoah, further north then Augusta County.- I have supposed that my assignment to the duty in The Bureau was in accordance with the policy of uniting the duties of the Department Commander and the Assistant Commissioner in one person.- If such be the case that policy is not fully carried out by the present arrangement, for a portion of the State is within the Department of Major Genl Hancock, and still another portion is within Major Genl Augers
