In reply to enclosed communication of February 6th from your office directing an investigation and report as to the claim of Colonel Stuart Barnes late A.Q.M. and Superintendent 2nd District against Mr. J. A. Moss late Treasury Agent at Clarksville, Va. I have the honor to submit the following report.

From a careful examination of Colonel Barnes papers on file in this office it is not found that any property was ever reported by him at Clarksville Va. or that the property was ever in the possession of the Bureau neither is there a record of any application of Colonel Barnes for the sale of property of Clarksville.-

Your attention is respectfully invited to the enclosed communication of Colonel Barnes dated February 18th 1867, with endorsement of Brevet Major George Q. White Chief Quarter Master & Disbursing Officer State of Virginia (Marked "A") also copy of a communication of Colonel Barnes to Bvt. Major Stone, Superintendent 2nd Dist. with statement of Mr. Moss (marked "B") and statement of Messrs Pernel and McIlvaine, auctioners for Colonel Barnes (marked "C") with account of sales of the property sold by Mr. Moss (marked "D")
