In reply to communication from General Whittlesey, dated, April 19th - enquiring wether [[whether]] certain lost transportation orders had ever been found - I have the honor to inform you that nothing has ever been heard from them. The Quartermasters Department in this city and at Fort Monroe, were promptly notified of the loss, and requested to cause the arrest of any person presenting the lost or stolen orders -

I enclose herewith, a cancelled order made out on a blank similar to those lost,- they were not approved like the enclosed but signed at the bottom in the same manner as the enclosed is signed by the Asst. Comr.

The signed orders were under No. 200 - All orders for transportation issued from this office, approved by yourself were reported to Washington soon after issue giving No. and date, with names of persons to whom the transportation was furnished.
