I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of Bureau affairs for the month of January 1868.
The number of Freedmen aided by the Bureau during the past month during the past month was Eight thousand five hundred

and eleven (8511), of this number Ten hundred and fourteen (1014) were in Hospital. -
The number of Refugees receiving rations was Three hundred and forty one (341). -
The number of Schools in this District during the month was Two hundred and seven (207); of these Forty seven (47) were wholly sustained by the freedmen, and Fifty (50) partially so. - The whole number of Teachers was Two hundred and eighty five (285) of whom ninety eight (98) were colored. - The whole number of pupils was Fourteen thousand six hundred and forty nine (14649)_ being an increase of nearly two thousand (2000) from the preceeding month. - The schools are increasing in efficiency and value. 
The number of persons treated for sickness by the Bureau Medical Department during the month was Three thousand nine hundred and seventy nine (3979) - The number remaining under treatment January 31st 1868 was Eight hundred and thirty two (832). -

The number of Insane remaining at the end of the month was Sixty four (64).

The number of Orphans under charge of the Bureau on the 31st January 1868 was one hundred and twelve (112).
