I have the honor to reply as follows to communication of April 2nd, 1868 from office Chf. Q.M., Bureau R.F. & A.L., viz:

It appears upon examination of the records of this office for cases similar to those commented upon by Genl, H.M. Whittelsey, Chf. Q.M., that on the 22nd July 1867, application was was made by the Am. Miss. Assn for two (2) Hospital Wards near "Tyler House", Fort Monroe. After learning that the buildings were the property of this Bureau, the application was forwarded to the Commissioner with the request that the buildings be turned over to the Association. It was returned Aug. 16th 1867 with authority to make the transfer requested, and Capt. Geo. Q. White, Chf Q.M. &c. was instructed to that effect.

It further appears that on the 5th Sept. 1867, Genl. S.C. Armstrong requested authority to expend three (3) vacant Hospital wards on "Wood farm" for the
