I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of Bureau affairs for the month of March 1868.

The number of Freedmen aided by the Bureau during the past month was Fifteen thousand three hundred and twenty eight (15.328), of this number Eleven hundred and fifty two (1152) were in Hosptial.

The number of Refugees receiving rations was Seventeen hundred and seventy three (1773).

The number of Schools in this District during the month was Two hundred and twenty nine (229) day

Schools and Forty (40) Night schools. The whole number of Teachers three hundred and sixteen (316). - The whole number of Scholars Sixteen thousand four hundred and three (16.403). Numbers of Schools are being opened by the freedmen, and the expense either wholly or principally borne by them. The educational work of the Bureau is in a healthy and prosperous condition.

The number of persons treated for sickness by the Bureau Medical Department during the month was Three thousand seven hundred and fifty seven (3757). - The number remaining under treatment March 31. 1868 was Ten hundred and fifty two (1052).

The number of Insane remaining at the end of the month was Sixty three (63.).

The number of Orphans under charge of the Bureau on the 31st March 1868. was One hundred (100).
