I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of Bureau affairs for the month of April 1868_ viz:

The number of Freedmen aided by the Bureau during the past month was Six thousand six hundred and ninety two (6692), of this number Six hundred and fifty eight (658) were in Hospital. The decrease in dependents from the preceeding month is Eight thousand six hundred and thirty six (8636).

The number of Refugees receiving rations was Six hundred and seven (607), a decrease of Eleven hundred and sixty six (1166) persons.

The number of Schools in this District during the month was Two hundred and thirty four (234) day schools and twenty nine (29) night Schools._ The whole number of Teachers Three hundred and fifty three (353)_ The whole number of scholars Sixteen thousand one hundred and eighty six (16.186)._ 

There is a steady increase in the number of self supporting Schools taught by colored teachers.

The number of persons treated for sickness by the Bureau Medical Department during the month was Three thousand five hundred and forty one (3541)_ The number remaining under treatment April 30th 1868 was Nine hundred and forty nine (949).

The number of Insane remaining at the end of the month was Sixty (60).

The number of Orphans under charge of the Bureau on the 30th April 1868, was Ninety six (96).

From several parts of the State reports have been received of the operations of the organization known as the "Ku-Klux-Klan"._ In some instances they have visited the houses of colored men at night, and
