I have the honor to enclose herewith extract from communication of J.R. Stone, S.A. Comr, 2. Sub. Dist. Va dated August 18th 1868, relative to the Counties of Dinwiddie & Pr. George, and most respectfully request that Mr. A.W. Fritz may be appointed an Agent of this Bureau, at a salary of one hundred (100) dollars per month, to date from the date of taking required oat.

I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of Bureau affairs for the month of July 1868. viz:

The number of Freedmen aided by the Bureau during the past month, was "Three thousand six hundred and thirty seven" (3637), of this number "Four hundred and twelve" (412), were in Hospital.

The number of Refugees receiving rations was "One hundred and eighty eight" (188), a decrease of "Seventy eight" (78) persons.

The number of Schools in this District during the month was "Seventy eight" (78), of which number "Six" (6), were Night Schools - The number of Teachers were "Seventy eight" (78), of which number "Thirty one" (31) were white. The whole number of Scholars "Two thousand and five hundred and fifty five" (2555), with an average attendance of "One thousand five hundred and fifty two" (1552). - These Schools are nearly all private tuition Schools.

The number of persons treated for sickness by the Bureau Medical Department during the month was, "Three thousand three hundred and sixty one" (3361). The number remaining under treatment July 31. 1868, was "Five hundred
