Dear Sir -

You are aware that the large Government school house for colored children at Fortress Monroe, is now occupied by a "Government School" for boys only, while all the other schools for colored children in the vicinity are under the management of the teachers - 15 in number - Sustained by the "American Missionary Association" who have had more than three thousand colored children, under their instruction, in small & poor school rooms, within the last three years - The Association is ready to furnish all the teachers needed for the work there, provided you will turn over, to them, for their use & occupancy the large Government school house, & the fixture therewith connected - which they earnestly desire you to do for the good & harmony of the schools there.

Very Respectfully
Yours &c
