P.S. Since writing this letter I have rec'd the enclosed, which I forward to you. If the "Bureau" can give me an appointment, at Washington with "salary from the Government" why cannot I have salary from the Government and remain here? I cannot go East by way of Washington because I have engaged to accompany a sick lady to New York, and have agreed to be there day after tomorrow. I do not wish to break away from any partial engagement I may have verbally made with you - should rather prefer to remain here, if my position and salary can be arranged! I shall wait a few days to hear from you before accepting any other position. The position which Col. Eaton refers to is "Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia"

Yours & E.K.
