General,
Allow me to present you the following statement of the operations of the Union Commission at this place since the middle of April. Also general plan of work - organization, etc. herewith.
Relief -
We have destributed gratuitously among the destitute poor in and around Richmond.
Flour - over - 80,000 lbs.
Soup daily for 3 months to 600 - 800 persons -
Garden seeds - No. papers -- 8,000
Agl. implements, as plows, shovels, spades, &c 150
Besides important aid to the few persons of unquestioned loyalty who have aided in the escape of Union prisoners during the rebellion, and who supplied food to others in prison -
Free Schools - for girls - one. No pupils - 100-
Free Schools boys one No pupils 130
Employing four teachers: supplying gratuitously, books, &c.
One of the teachers, Dr. F.G. Wright has made over 150 visits gratuitously to the poor. - Large numbers of discharged Union soldiers & and paroled rebel prisoners have been fed.
