Complains of the rude treatment of Mr. Bergfels a teacher near Fort Monroe - for interfering in the case of a colored man - afterwards the cold man was beaten by the Pro-Mar for obtaining Mr. B. interference

with endorsement of Capt Wilder dated Fort Monroe Aug. 28th 1865 stating that the Pro. Mar. at Fort Monroe & the troops there had been removed on account of the above ill treatment of Mr. Bergfel.

Respectfully returned to Col. O. Brown with the information that the Pro. Mar. within referred to also the troops of that place, have been removed on account of their conduct towards Mr Bergfels and the colored people in that vicinity on the demand of Capt. A.S. Flagg Supt. Refugees &c. This action at that time seemed satisfactory to Mr. Bergfels.
