Dear Sir,

Miss Sharpe,— now Mrs. Murphy,— writes us that she has given up the idea of going to school, & that she would like to take charge of Mr. Lucas's school during his illness, & afterwards assist him as before. We have written her that she can take charge of the school for a month, if Mr. Lucas is ill as long as that, & afterwards we will see what arrangement can be made; that we are willing she should assist Mr. Lucas as before provided the freed people
