Custom House, Norfolk, Va.,
Collector's Office, Oct 4th 1865

Sir:
I have been notified by Tazewell Taylor Esq (Trustee) that the House No 3 Freemason Street has been turned over to Mrs Angelina E Johns and that I must vacate it on the 15th inst. I have been occupying the House since Oct 1863 and paying the Government rent regularly and have a lease on the property until the 28th day of February 1866. The contract that I made with Mr Johnson the Agt of the Freedmans Bureau was in good faith and I see no reason why it should not be equally binding upon the Bureau as myself. Houses are not to be had just now and but few are to be had for the ensuing year. I recd notice
