population, they do not wish to do anything which may bring upon them either the censure or disapprobation of the Government. You must be aware Sir, that our people in this portion of the state have suffered very much during the past four years, & should their scanty supplies be taken from them many must suffer, for they have not the means to purchase others. It is believed that white men, some of them native residents of the Peninsula are in collusion with these parties & share with them the spoils.

We earnestly hope and believe Sir, as the Executive Officer of this ancient and honourable Commonwealth, that you will at once use your influence to suppress these outrages, and quiet the minds of our people on a matter in which they feel deeply concerned.
